Graduate Players – The Australian Shakespeare Company

ASC GRADUATE PLAYERS 2018 Presents

COMEDY OF ERRORS

In May 2017, ASC’s Graduate Players (formally Bravehearts) toured to Prague and performed in the Prague Fringe Festival with Twelfth Night in 65 minutes. The production, directed by company Artistic Director Glenn Elston, was based on his ASC main stage summer production of 2016/17 in Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. It was well received both in Australia and the Czech Republic, and a blast to work on. The energy and enthusiasm of the young cast is the lynchpin of this program.

In February 2018 the ASC Grad Players will begin work on a production of ‘The Comedy of Errors’, which will incorporate physical theatre, commedia dell’arte, circus skills and music. It will complete a short Melbourne season of 4 performances, then head to Sale in Gippsland for one show, before touring to Prague to participate in the Prague Fringe Festival once again. The program will give participants the opportunity to work with professional ASC staff, including directors, musical director, choreographer and actors over a 12-week period as the show is rehearsed and actors are coached in Shakespeare techniques and acting methodologies. The company will also have the opportunity to network with international artists in the Czech Republic during the festival season.

All participants have been offered the option of staying on in Europe after our Festival season, to tour at their leisure, as an open ended return air ticket is available. We will also offering arts touring following our 6 festival performances, including a workshop with Prague Shakespeare Company, and attending PSC performances (subject to availability), and several cultural events.

Don’t miss this exciting show, with a cast of dynamic new actors, performing with the ASC for the first time.

“Bravehearts to me is not just about getting up on stage and playing a role, it’s about learning what it means to be actor. This was an incredible journey from the first script read through in an room in Williamstown to the final bow on stage in Prague, and we as a unit pushed through together. I loved just how involved we all got with every aspect and everyone had a say which made it our show. Thanks to the wisdom and keen eyes of our directors Kevin Hopkins and Phil Sumner we created something memorable and I can’t thank Bravehearts enough from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity.”

“Bravehearts is a rich and diverse project for young actors, which educates under the direction of professional theatre practitioners and offers invaluable first hand industry experience. The project is much more than a production as skills classes and theory based research offer a very real taste of what life would be like if these aspiring actors were to attend a university affiliated drama school.”
